Becoming addicted to Facebook will make some adolescents more susceptible to drug use. Studies have shown that, “Problematic Internet use is associated with other risky behaviours and may be an important early predictor of adolescent substance use” (Rücker par. 1). It is legitimate to say that an increase in the chance of using drugs is present in anything that negatively affects emotional stability, and that Facebook is just like anything in life that may increase the risk of using drugs. However, this risk could be decreased with the deletion of Facebook (Rücker par. 1). According to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA), “Every year, including this year, teens tell us that tobacco, alcohol and other drugs are the biggest problem facing teens their age” (Alcohol, Tobacco, Illicit Drugs, and Youth par. 1). With this type pressure on today's youth, Facebook is only going to make the pressure worse. The social benefits of Facebook are simply not worth the increased risk of drug and alcohol use for adolescents.
