Along the same lines, avid Facebook users are experiencing many negative side effects in regard to their overall moral. Studies have shown that on average, Facebook addicts have lower self-esteem and life satisfaction levels than a regular Facebook users (Błachnio et al. par. 1). How could Facebook lower our self esteem? One possible explanation to this could be explained by Steven Furtick when he said, “The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel” (Hunter par. 5). This is very true on Facebook because most people only post the high points in their life, rather than the low points. As Steven Furtick would put it, Facebook is full of highlight reels, and users cannot help but compare this to their own behind the scene struggles. One could say that this is simply jealousy and that people should learn to be happy for others. However; it is a natural reaction for some people to feel envy over others success, and Facebook presents an unnatural environment that the can cause unavoidable stress.
