Additionally, Facebook is a huge threat to the privacy of many users. Computer security and privacy specialist Bruce Schneier stated, “If the National Security Agency required us to notify it whenever we made a new friend, the nation would rebel. Yet, we notify Facebook” (par. 1). This is a valid point considering that many people are very willing to give away information to Facebook, and are unaware that they are really giving it to the entire world. Those who give away information through Facebook are much more likely to be a victim of crime, such as burglary (Millions Not Using Facebook Privacy Tools par. 2). This is simply because basic information like addresses and phone numbers can be accessed on Facebook by any criminal with bad intentions. Some may say that privacy settings can be changed to prevent this, but Facebook’s default settings are fairly loose in regards to what information is accessible to everyone. Besides safety, these lackadaisical default settings allow for a very invasive views into the lives of unknowing users. The deletion of a facebook account would prevent this from ever happening.
